A purifier now fits inside the employee gift exemption.
From 1 April 2026 the Income-tax Rules 2026 set the employee gift exemption at below ₹15,000 in aggregate per employee per tax year (Rule 15(5)(a), Table IV, item 4), up from ₹5,000. A Philips Smart Air Purifier 900 Series sits well inside it.
Three things your finance team will ask: the limit is an aggregate across every gift and voucher that year, it is a cliff (cross it and the whole value becomes a taxable perquisite), and the employer's GST input credit on gifts is blocked under section 17(5)(h).
